Pavements are really important for many people to get around. All the more so for people with pushchairs and mobility scooters etc. Sometimes pavements are blocked because of inconsiderate parking but it can also be because of overgrown bushes. It should make us all cross when we see people forced to walk in the road.
Case in point was the pavement on Cherry Street where the pavement was covered with an overgrown privet hedge. The hedge was on a steep bank and had got to maybe 20ft tall and 6ft wide and way beyond a pair of shears. To get it back under control it was a more professional chainsaw job. If you are on a low income in a rented home potentially having to choose between heating and eating it’s understandable that paying a professional to cut and remove trees and bushes may not be a priority. So I was very pleased after a bit of lobbying with Platform Housing that they have now got the privet hedge back into a position where it can be managed by the tenants. It’s taken a while to sort out – maybe I should not get so much pleasure from the hedge being cuts but sometimes it’s the small wins that make a difference to our everyday lives!
