Feedback PACT (Partners and Community Together) meeting
It was a very well attended meeting – around twenty five people.
- If you read and remember no further than this point please do report all crime however small to the police using the police website: Report a crime Please don’t just stick it on Facebook! Reported crime is what the police use to determine resources and priorities. They help the police piece together patterns of behaviour and provide leads to follow.
- There should be four police officers that cover the Battenhall, St Peter’s and Nunnery area. Unfortunately there are still only three officers. This is said to be due to budget pressures.
- Ann Nicholls, council manager for Community Safety/Youth Intervention Team reported back on the ongoing work to engage and sustainably solve the current issue with the homeless man living on Diglis Nature Reserve. Lots of sensitive issues but it is receiving attention from senior officers and managers.
- Ann also committed to work with landowners on Battenhall playing fields to improve security on the fields to have the building on Evendine Close demolished. However the land is privately owned so progress could be slow.
- Positive news that a criminal that was very active in several reported car crimes in Battenhall has now been convicted and received a 26 week sentence. Thank you to everyone that reported incidents to the police.
- Ann Nicholls also shared that she will be visiting Christopher Whitehead and possibly Nunnery Wood High School on 19th and 20th June to talk to the pupils about crime and keeping safe. It’s a fantastic initiative where they will cover subjects like water safety, county lines, walking on railway lines, knife crimes and drugs etc.
- Police officer Steve Chance offered to organise a public presentation on Domestic Violence. This is an often very under reported and hidden issue. Not only is this a tragedy for those involved the knock on effect to the community is very large with a resulting 171 individual applications for safe housing recently coming forward.
- It was confirmed that Helen Wicks will be meeting again with Steve MacKay and county highways staff on site to discuss the recent crashes on Timberdine Avenue.
- Ann Nicholls will contact our local schools to offer cycle confidence and skills training. It is hoped this will be in place for near the start of the autumn term.
- There was discussion about at least three cars coming off the road on the new St Peter’s dual carriageway including frustration that as the cars had not collided with another vehicle and no one had been hurt it was very unlikely that the issue was getting the attention it deserved – many people saying that this is an accident waiting to happen.
- There are reports of children climbing under the new bypass bridges and actually crawling through the inside of the bridge over the passing traffic below. Unfortunately it appears that the incident was not reported to the police only to the St Peter’s Facebook group. Steve MacKay said he’d ask highway engineers to look into this and the other highways issue above.
- Cllr Piotrowski said that he hoped that an invitation would soon be made to have Police and Crime Commissioner to meet with the city council’s Community Committee to discuss policing priorities for the city. Would it also be possible to invite John Campion to attend one of our PACT meetings.
- Date of next meeting to be determined around room availability in due course.
