Speed / Safety Concerns on London Road

Many residents, whilst speaking to Paul and Louis, have raised concerns about the speed of the traffic on London Road. This has been highlighted by another serious accident near Foxwell Street in August with a car flipping on to its roof. Speeding cars and lorries, as well as being noisy are creating safety concerns for pedestrians as well as cars pulling out of side roads.

Speeding near Foxwell street is less of a problem at busy congested ‘rush hour’ times of the day. However overnight when the traffic volume is low over 25% of the vehicles are speeding above 35mph.

Pavement parking is also becoming an issue as people stop to use the local shops.

What is to be done? One possibility is to install a speed camera. Another is to install a segregated cycle lane on the uphill side or possibly change the road layout to introduce a 20mph zone. What do you think?
